Stronger Kent Communities (SKC) is a new consortium funded by KCC to deliver capacity building, volunteering support and improving communication and networking in Kent’s Voluntary and Community Sector. The contract awarded replaces the historic grants from KCC given to Kent infrastructure organisations.
Communication – SKC is currently developing a new website to provide the information and support the sector requires. At present breaking news will be provided by social media, the Kent CAN website, www.kentcan.org.uk and the funders section on the Funding for All website, www.fundingforall.org.uk. There will also be a project to market community assets, which will include community halls, community mini buses, equipment and other community assets.

Volunteering – SKC is delivering a number of projects covering creating a quality mark to recognise excellent volunteer management (REVAMP), volunteer fairs, sessions to provide prospective volunteer with support, Timebanks, volunteer champions, volunteer workshops to help organisations develop opportunities, volunteer fairs and support for young people to become trustees.

Capacity Building – SKC is delivering 15 training courses each year around funding and successful bid writing. Funding for All are offering a free mentoring service to community groups and small charities on bid writing, tendering, approaching businesses and philanthropists, fundraising and advice on types of organisations. This is delivered through 25 mentors who specialise in different areas from Health and Social Care to sport. There will also be a Young Fundraisers project, a Skills Exchange programme and a Coffee Caravan which will be visiting remote rural areas to offer advice, support and guidance.
